Nuno Espirito Santo gave little away when asked if Callum Wilson would start for West Ham United against Newcastle on Sunday.

There have been calls on social media to bring Wilson into the West Ham United starting lineup as Nuno takes his side to St James’ Park for a huge Premier League game.

Wilson is unhappy with his bit-part role at West Ham, having last started a game back in March.

Nuno has so far preferred the likes of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe to start games at elite level, with Wilson largely coming off the bench since their arrivals in January.

Still, there is an understandable clamour for Wilson. Nuno, however, is so far refusing to get swept up in it.

Nuno says a decision on Wilson decision is yet to be made

Directly asked during Friday’s pre-match press conference if Wilson had done enough to start games, Nuno said without batting an eyelid: “We’re going to decide tomorrow the team. We’re going to decide, prepare well and, like I said, the only player that is not available is Adama.

“The rest are all options.”

Between 1-10, how would you rate West Ham’s survival chances if they beat Newcastle? 😬

So little about what Nuno has done here in east London in recent months would suggest that the 34-year-old will suddenly start games.

That’s not to say he cannot play a big role, just that Taty and Pablo have so far started the majority of Premier League games since January.

The West Ham boss is in an unenviable position when it comes to striker selection.

Fans are calling for Wilson, and for good reason. Still, having doubts about him being able to play a huge amount of minutes at this stage of his career would hardly be ridiculous.

Wilson’s long-term future at West Ham is uncertain despite reports of a new contract a few weeks ago.

As it stands, he’s set to leave the club at the end of the season. Still, as a starter or not, it would be foolish to suggest he cannot play a big role in the final two games.
