Newcastle be warned as West Ham star Vladimir Coufal describes playing Spurs as ‘hell’ ahead of a big clash in the top six mix.

West Ham came from behind to beat bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in their own back yard on Thursday night.

Now Tottenham host Newcastle United in what is a massive game for the top six hopes of both clubs and West Ham.

The door to the top six has been left wide open for the Hammers and Newcastle after Saturday’s results.

Now if West Ham beat Fulham at Craven Cottage they will rise to sixth – level on points with fifth-placed Spurs.

Then all eyes will be on the outcome of Tottenham’s home game against Newcastle. Defeat for the injury-ravaged Magpies would keep West Ham sixth.

Tottenham have been mocked and labelled ‘Spursy’ after letting a lead slip for a record fifth consecutive Premier League game against West Ham.

But Newcastle be warned because West Ham star Vladimir Coufal describes playing Spurs as ‘hell’.

Coufal was obviously delighted to beat rivals Tottenham. But he was honest enough to admit it was far from straightforward with the Hammers ending the game with just 25% possession.

‘We knew it would be a game like this’

“We knew it would be a game like this probably, with a lot of them on the ball in a high position, and we would have to be compact, stick together and cover each other,” Coufal admitted on the club’s website.

“We did an unbelievable job together defensively and we survived.

“The first 15, 20 minutes was like hell almost, to be honest, but we survived. We conceded just one goal – from a corner kick, which was not good enough from us – but in the second half we took our chances.

“We scored two goals and I think they didn’t create a lot of chances in the second half.

“I’m not saying we controlled the game, but I think we were very solid, compact and difficult to play though. We played our game to full effect.”
