There has been a new DoF hunt twist as a source confirms a West Ham meeting to hijack a Spurs appointment.

West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur are planning to make big changes ahead of the summer transfer window.

Hammers News reported on claims from journalist Jacob Steinberg last week that majority stakeholder David Sullivan is leading a push to bring in a top level Director of Football at West Ham.

Over at bitter rivals Tottenham, chairman Daniel Levy is working to try and appoint a new manager.

But the Spurs chief is – like West Ham – also said to be eager to appoint a director of football first to help with that search.

Tottenham are looking to fill the role left by Fabio Paratici after he was handed a 30-month ban by Fifa for his involvement in the Juventus scandal.

New DoF hunt twist as source confirms West Ham meeting to hijack Spurs appointment

Meanwhile West Ham want to appoint a DoF alongside sporting director Mark Noble to improve recruitment and how transfer money is spent.

The process to recruit a DoF is said to be well underway at West Ham with five prime candidates in the running.

One of the names high up on Tottenham’s list of DoF targets is said to be Brentford’s Lee Dykes.

The problem for the Levy and Spurs is that West Ham are seriously interested too.

In fact there’s a new DoF hunt twist as a source confirms a West Ham meeting to hijack a Spurs appointment.

Hammers eye top Spurs target

Football Insider claim sources have told them West Ham have actually held talks with Tottenham target Dykes over becoming the club’s new DoF.

Dykes has spent four years at Brentford and was promoted to technical director in 2022 after impressing in his previous role as the head of recruitment.

Now Football Insider sources claim the Hammers are a serious threat to Tottenham’s plans.

‘Tottenham and West Ham lead the race’

“Spurs are set to face competition from West Ham after this site revealed that the Hammers have also held talks with Dykes over a sporting director role.

“The West Ham board are disappointed by their transfer business under Moyes and are preparing to bring a director to the club to improve their recruitment…

“Dykes is also admired by a number of other English clubs, but Tottenham and West Ham lead the race to appoint him after holding concrete talks and discussing their club’s vision.”

West Ham do have an alternative lined up, though, should Spurs beat them to Dykes.

Ex Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards is another top target for Sullivan.

And Hammers News has spoken exclusively to a top Liverpool expert who says ‘the man with the midas touch’ could be the ‘perfect fit’ for West Ham.
