West Ham United allowed Nayef Aguerd to join Real Sociedad on loan back in the summer of 2024.

Nayef Aguerd joined West Ham from Rennes in the summer of 2022.

However, it quickly became apparent that he was a terrible fit for the Premier League.

His form out in Spain has been like night and day from what he displayed at the London Stadium.

In fact, Aguerd has been so impressive for Sociedad that Barcelona and Real Madrid allegedly now want to sign him in the summer.

The great thing for the Hammers is that his value is said to have increased exponentially since his loan move out to La Liga.

Hopefully he continues his fine form for Real Sociedad.

He has already done something that no other player in La Liga has managed this season.

The Morocco international has been a big hit at the Reale Arena this season.

He is quite clearly more suited to La Liga than he was the Premier League!

And Hammers-owned Aguerd is already breaking records out in Spain.

Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid have the most clean sheets in La Liga this season, with 11 each to their names (Soccer Stats).

Aguerd has been a part of nine of those for Sociedad – a number bettered by not one single player in La Liga.

The next best on the list is Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Maria Gimenez, who has eight clean sheets to his name.

As a side note, he has three clean sheets to his name in the Europa League as well.

Those numbers are mightily impressive from the 28-year-old. However, don’t be fooled, moving him on was still the correct decision.

Nayef Aguerd should command a decent fee for West Ham

The Moroccan’s form out in Spain is great news for West Ham.

The Hammers fans shouldn’t be angry that we let him go – he was terrible in the Premier League for us.

Aguerd’s lack of physicality meant that he was often bullied by opposing attackers.

The 28-year-old was regularly found out of position due to his terrible lack of awareness, and he became a target for the opposition week in, week out.

The former Rennes defender was beaten far too easily by simple balls over the top, and every single time he stepped on the pitch for us he was as easy target for our opponents.

West Ham loaning out Nayef Aguerd last summer was 100 per cent the correct call.

Now we just have to hope that the club receive a lucrative fee for him when the summer transfer window opens.
