Moving £10 million flop Thilo Kehrer to a completely new position could very well save his West Ham United career.

David Moyes brought the 26-year-old to West Ham in the summer transfer window from Paris Saint-Germain for around £10 million (The Sun).

However, the 24-capped Germany international has experienced an absolute nightmare at the London Stadium so far.

After making a bright start to his Hammers career, Kehrer has really struggled for form and confidence over the past four or five months.

So what is the problem? He is a Germany international who played 128 games for Paris Saint-Germain. He can’t be a bad player can he!

Kehrer has looked dreadful for West Ham at right-back and centre-back though. He is rash in the challenge and that reckless nature has cost us on numerous occasions.

The 26-year-old’s positional sense is absolutely shocking and his concentration levels are questionable. All seems lost with Kehrer at the moment.

However, I believe there is something that Moyes could do to help the German salvage his career in East London…

Thilo Kehrer could be used in a completely different position for West Ham

The Premier League is extremely unforgiving.

And for that reason, I believe that Kehrer would actually be better suited playing as a defensive midfielder.

The German could play at the base of midfield, allowing Declan Rice and Lucas Paqueta to operate freely in front of him.

The former PSG ace has all of the attributes needed to succeed as a defensive midfielder in the Premier League, and he has played there numerous times before during his time in the French capital.

Kehrer has energy and stamina in abundance and his array of passing really is something to behold.

He is tenacious in the tackle and has great mobility. In other words he’s perfectly suited to the defensive midfield role. Having him at the base of our midfield would massively improve our ability to retain possession as well, with Rice and Paqueta in front of him.

Thilo Kehrer has made a really bad start to his West Ham career. However, a change of position might just enable him to fulfil his potential in East London.
