Liverpool ace Van Dijk, who earns around £220k-a-week at Anfield (Spotrac), is undoubtedly one of the world’s very best central defenders.

Meanwhile, West Ham man Antonio has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League this season.

The Holland international will come face-to-face with Micky on Sunday afternoon at the London Stadium when West Ham play host to Liverpool.

Michail Antonio makes bold claim about Virgil van Dijk

The 30-year-old centre-half will have his hands full with the Hammers striker on Sunday.

The winner of that particular duel may well end up on the winning team.

Antonio has already started the fighting talk ahead of Sunday’s top of the table clash.

Antonio spoke to Wingmen, and suggested that whilst Van Dijk is strong, he is stronger:

“Virgil (is a strong centre-back). He is strong. No-one should be stronger than me. He’s (Van Dijk) strong. He is up there. Fernandinho is strong. Kurt Zouma is a strong guy. But I am talking about who is going to be stronger than me? No-one is stronger than me.”

We have no doubts that Micky is the strongest player in the Premier League, if not the world.

Surely his comments will gee up Van Dijk ahead of Sunday’s game though and the Dutchman will undoubtedly come out determined to prove Antonio wrong.

If the 31-year-old West Ham man can find a way of getting the better of Van Dijk he will further cement his place inside the top echelon of Premier League forwards.

The problem is that many have tried to do that and failed miserably.

Sunday will be a huge barometer of how far the Hammers can go this season.

It will also be a big indication of how far Antonio has come as a centre-forward.
