West Ham loanee Maxwel Cornet’s spell at Serie A club Genoa has gone from bad to worse recently.

Cornet underwhelmed in his two seasons at the London Stadium and has spent the last 18 months out on loan.

Having shown signs of good form at Genoa in the 2024/25 campaign, the Italian team re-signed him last summer.

However, the winger’s second loan spell in Italy has not lived up to expectations for multiple reasons.

Cornet just reached an unwanted milestone that sums up how disappointing his time at Genoa has been.

Can you name a WORSE signing than Maxwel Cornet? 🤔

He scored ONE Premier League goal for the Hammers 🤦‍♂️

Maxwel Cornet has gone one month without playing for Genoa

Cornet missed the start of the Serie A season with a calf injury and then suffered another muscular problem in November.

He also spent three weeks on the sidelines over Christmas with a thigh injury before returning to the team on 25 January.

However, Cornet has recently hit a new low as injuries are no longer to blame for his lack of appearances.

After coming on as a substitute in three consecutive league games in late January and early February, the 29-year-old has not played since.

Indeed, he has been an unused substitute for Daniele De Rossi’s side in their last four Serie A games.

Cornet has now gone an entire month without playing in a competitive match as his unfortunate decline continues.

This would suggest that Genoa have no intention of signing Cornet permanently – or even on another loan – this summer.

With one year remaining on his contract, the Hammers would probably accept a minimal fee from elsewhere to let him go.
