Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has praised West Ham United star James Ward-Prowse, when discussing his future transfer plans at Stamford Bridge.
Mauricio Pochettino took over as Chelsea manager in the summer, but he’s found it tough going in West London, and today highlighted the importance of James Ward-Prowse at West Ham when discussing his future plans.
Hammers boss David Moyes brought the 29-year-old to the London Stadium from Southampton in the summer, and he’s been a huge hit for us.
Ward-Prowse has bagged five goals and 10 assists in 31 games for West Ham so far this season (Transfermarkt), and his deliveries from set-pieces have made us so dangerous from corners and free-kicks.
And now Pochettino has explained how he wants someone exactly like the English midfielder at Stamford Bridge…

Mauricio Pochettino makes James Ward-Prowse claim
The Chelsea boss is clearly a very big fan of the 29-year-old Hammers star.
And Pochettino suggested that he is looking for a player just like the West Ham man at Chelsea next season, as quoted by the Sun:
“We work a lot on set-pieces. After that, it is about the quality of the player and takers. We don’t have a specialist. Ben Chilwell is good in the delivery but, after that, we lack a specialist. We are trying to find one for next season. Look at West Ham. Look before at West Ham and after. What changed? When you add a player like him, Ward-Prowse, you increase the percentage. That is football.”
Pochettino is spot on, the former Southampton man has played a part in so many of our goals this season.
I think that we got a very good player in the summer, for a really good price. He’s not just a set-piece merchant either – he’s a natural born leader, and a very good passer of the football.
The West Ham star is a top player, but he’s still very underrated as far as I’m concerned. Let’s hope it stays that way though!
The last thing we need is Mauricio Pochettino making a move for James Ward-Prowse in the summer transfer window!
