David Moyes and West Ham have been lamented by Jacob Steinberg for their lack of urgency in the January transfer window.
The Guardian journalist took his X account to criticise the way that David Moyes set up his West Ham team for their clash with Bournemouth last night.
Jacob Steinberg, a journalist who has high level sources inside the London Stadium, questioned the formation that Hammers boss Moyes deployed against the Cherries, and the journalist was absolutely spot on.
What on earth was the West Ham manager playing at by starting James Ward-Prowse on the left wing and Tomas Soucek as a number 10.
Kalvin Phillips started the match as well, when it was clear to see that he was nowhere near ready to do so – strange from a manager who hardly ever starts new signings straight away.

Not only was it a disaster on the pitch for the Hammers last night, but it was a disaster off of it as well, with no new arrivals on deadline day. We even caused the deals for Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals to falter.
Real Betis are still hopeful of forcing through a deal for the latter, so we’ll see what happens there, but why on earth didn’t Moyes sign anyone? I’m glad it’s not just me who was utterly baffled by our lack of action in the market…
Jacob Steinberg fires off outspoken dig at West Ham and David Moyes
The Guardian journalist took to his official X account last night, and lamented Moyes’s lack of urgency to bring in a new winger this month:
Steinberg is absolutely spot on. The lack of urgency to bring in at least one forward this month has been astounding.
Why did we leave things so late in the first place to get things done? It’s just unacceptable.
Deals for the likes of Jota, Steven Bergwijn, Jack Clarke and Ibrahim Osman were all there for the taking throughout January and the transfer makers at the club just dragged their feet. Who’s really to blame though? Moyes? David Sullivan? Tim Steidten? Mark Noble or Rob Newman? How about Daniel Kretinsky?
Nobody actually knows do they. What is for sure though is that West Ham royally messed up the January transfer window, and Jacob Steinberg highlighted exactly that last night.
The fact that such a trusted journalist inside the walls of the club has been so outspoken about our failings tells us all we need to know about just how bad our January window was.
