West Ham United manager David Moyes failed to add a forward to his ranks in the January transfer window.
David Moyes brought Kalvin Phillips to the London Stadium in the January transfer window, but his failure to add any more players to his West Ham squad seems like a huge missed opportunity.
The Hammers boss had plenty of time to get deals done throughout the month, but the window ended in real disappointment, and Jacob Steinberg was among the high profile figures in the game who absolutely hammered Moyes and the club for their lack of action.
West Ham even managed to cause the Said Benrahma deal to collapse, whilst the same could happen with the Pablo Fornals transfer.
What on earth were we playing at throughout the month of January and deadline day in particular? Looking at it this morning, I think the answer is a very simple one…
David Moyes the reason for January transfer window failings
I think the Hammers boss is the main reason why we didn’t sign anyone on a permanent transfer in the January window.
And I’m not saying that because he was the one who didn’t want to bring anyone in, or dithered when it came to making decisions.
I think Moyes was the main reason for our lack of transfer activity because the board don’t in fact plan to offer him a new deal at the end of the season, so didn’t want to give him any funds when he’ll be leaving the London Stadium in just a few month’s time.
That’s only my theory and I have no inside knowledge of what’s actually going on at the club, but considering how much we were crying out for at least a couple of new signings, it has to be the only explanation.
If David Sullivan has full faith in Moyes, he would have offered the Scot a new deal by now already wouldn’t he? Surely he would have.
David Moyes was never going to be given lavish funds to spend in the January transfer window, with his future currently so uncertain. I fully believe that the Scot will not be our manager at the start of next season. Only time will tell whether that turns out to be correct or not.
