A Manchester United takeover update overnight is brilliant news for West Ham after a hugely exciting claim.

Both West Ham and Manchester United have been heavily linked with big money takeovers this season.

Man United have been the subject of a protracted takeover bidding process since being put up for sale by the Glazers.

And it has long been speculated that West Ham could be sold after the expiration of the club’s embarrassment clause in the London Stadium deal with the LLDC back in March.

The passing of co-owner David Gold and his daughter Jacqueline has also seen speculation intensify that West Ham could soon change hands.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire told Hammers News earlier this season that Daniel Kretinsky has no desire for a full West Ham takeover.

The future of both Man United and West Ham could actually be intrinsically linked.

Both parties in the running to buy the Red Devils have been linked with a West Ham takeover too.

As reported before the World Cup break, Sir Jim Ratcliffe was allegedly interested in a potential takeover of West Ham before Man United were put on the market.

It appeared Man United had killed any West Ham hopes of a Ratcliffe takeover when they were put up for sale as he confirmed his intention to bid for the Old Trafford club.

West Ham have long been linked with a potential Qatari takeover. The land surrounding the London Stadium – including Queen Elizabeth Park itself – is Qatari owned.

And just last week Ratcliffe’s rival bidder for Man United, Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani, was reported to be eyeing West Ham should his attempts to buy the Red Devils fail.

So a Manchester United takeover update overnight is brilliant news for West Ham after that hugely exciting claim.

Sheikh it up baby now…

Sky Sports reported late last night that Ineos billionaire Ratcliffe remains the leading candidate to buy Manchester United despite an inconclusive board meeting held late last week.

Sky claim the Ratcliffe bid, which would see two of the Glazer family remain on the board, is currently leading the race ahead of Sheikh Jassim’s offer to to buy Man United outright.

Sir Jim’s takeover proposal includes ‘put and call’ arrangements that would allow him to buy the Glazers’ remaining shares after three years.

Should that happen and Sheikh Jassim does turn his attentions to West Ham, it would raise the prospect of serious spending power for the Hammers.

Because Sheikh Jassim is part of the ruling royal family who have a collective net worth estimated to be at around £275bn.
