A big update has been provided on David Moyes and his current contract situation at West Ham United.

David Moyes will be out of contract at West Ham in the summer, so will he be in charge at the London Stadium for the start of the 2024/25 campaign?

The Hammers manager has apparently been set for talks with David Sullivan about a potential new contract for quite some time now.

However, as things stand, there have been no confirmed reports suggesting that those talks have in any way progressed.

A really poor run of results throughout January and on into early February have probably stopped the Scot from being handed a new deal already.

Now, a big update has been provided by someone with very close links to West Ham co-owner David Sullivan…

West Ham insider Sean Whetstone took to his official X account today to provide an update on Moyes’s current contract situation at the London Stadium.

And he suggested that it is looking very likely that the Scot will sign a new deal:

Wow, that is a big concern in my opinion. There is absolutely no way that Moyes should be handed a new deal until the season is finished.

What if he puts pen to paper now on a new long-term contract and we continue to plummet down the league table, get knocked out of the Europa League in the last 16 and the football is still as turgid as it has been at times this term?

The Hammers owners seem to be setting themselves up to fail here. If Moyes finishes off this season in style and secures us European football again next season, then I don’t see how he wouldn’t deserve a new deal.

However, I feel very strongly that he is not the man to take us forward. We needed a younger, more progressive manager who sets his teams up on the front foot to take us to that elusive next level.

If David Moyes is handed a new contract though, I reckon we’ll have another couple of years ahead of us just treading water.
