‘Lost grip on reality’ Jeff Stelling absolutely hammers West Ham fan live on talkSPORT

Jeff Stelling has absolutely ripped into one West Ham United fan in particular during a talkSPORT phone-in.

West Ham were terrible against Fulham yesterday afternoon, but Jeff Stelling chose to have a real pop at one Hammers fan today, rather than understand his frustrations.

David Moyes would have been fuming with his team behind closed doors – rightly so as well, and I think the Scot and his players really don’t deserve the support we give them at times.

In fairness to the Scot, he has worked wonders since taking over at the London Stadium for the second time four years ago.

Moyes guided us to our first trophy in 43 years last season, and it goes without saying that we’re all incredibly grateful for that.

However, how much credit does that give him? Leicester City sacked Claudio Ranieri six months after he won the Premier League title after all!

The brand of football being deployed by Moyes is utterly turgid. It’s passive, lethargic and devoid of any kind of tempo or energy.

And that’s clearly what Stelling was missing during the live phone-in on talkSPORT this morning…

Jeff Stelling absolutely hammers West Ham fan on talkSPORT

The well-renowned presenter was hosting his breakfast show on talkSPORT today, when a West Ham fan text in to suggest that he was refusing to mention our defeat to Fulham because ‘Moyes is his mate’.

Stelling responded by saying:

“I’m thinking is this the same David Moyes who won West Ham a European trophy and are currently in the top 10 of the Premier League? You’re losing your grip on reality for goodness sake. You’re doing brilliantly, ok not at the weekend, but by and large, you’re doing brilliantly, get a grip son.”

See, this kind of attitude infuriates me. As fans, are we not allowed to demand better than a mid-table finish?

Why is it so frowned upon to be ambitious and want our team to challenge for the top six? There is this strange expectation amongst the media that West Ham fans should have the attitude that we are a small club, and that we need to be grateful for just avoiding relegation year in year out.

Let’s not forget just how much money David Moyes has spent over the past few transfer windows. The owners have backed Moyes to the hilt by bringing in the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Gianluca Scamacca over the past 18 months.

So I’m sorry, but we more than have the right to demand a lot more from Moyes, in spite of his impressive achievements since rejoining the club.

I actually think it is Jeff Stelling who has lost his grip on reality rather than the West Ham fan who text into talkSPORT.
