When it comes to having an inside source at West Ham United they don’t come much better than Alvin Martin.

Owners vow to show ‘ambition’ as they back Moyes for West Ham rebuild

The Hammers legend of course has son David Martin in the current squad.

And subject to official confirmation it appears Martin will be kept on in some capacity after he was left off West Ham’s release list recently despite his contract being up.

Inside sources at West Ham don’t come much better than Alvin Martin’s

Martin is perhaps one of the unsung heroes of West Ham’s brilliant season.

The Hammers finished sixth with the club’s best ever Premier League points haul and made the Europa League group stages for the first time as a result.

And although he did not feature, his influence being the scenes around the dressing room has been mentioned by many players including captain Mark Noble.

His dad Alvin has drawn comparisons between last season’s squad and the teams he played in for West Ham like the boys of 86.

Legend lifts lid on what son David has told him about the West Ham dressing room

And Alvin revealed what his inside source David told him about what has made the Hammers dressing room special (whufc.com).

“The togetherness and closeness in the group is also very important,” Martin told whufc.com.

“Obviously (my son) David is in that dressing-room, he witnesses it first hand, and sometimes we talk about the players, his team-mates, and there is a real friendship in the squad that has come through.

“Now and again he’ll tell me what they’ve been doing. It’s a squad that trains, and doesn’t just get in the car and go home.

‘It’s a great sign… there’s a genuine friendship’

“It’s a squad that trains and then likes being around each other. They’ll eat together, they’ll play head tennis together, and there will be stuff going on afterwards.

“That’s always a great sign for me – that people are enjoying coming in. Obviously when you’re winning games the training ground is a nice place to go, but David Moyes has been able to create something that is family-orientated, with genuine friendship.”

It is so great to hear West Ham being spoken about in such a positive light.

And there is plenty of excitement to come over the summer and next season as Moyes looks to improve his Hammers squad to take on a jam-packed European and domestic schedule.
