Kurt Zouma may not play for West Ham at Brentford but there’s huge news from manager David Moyes after fears.

West Ham head to west London to take on Brentford today looking for a first Premier League victory over the Bees.

And it looks like they may have to do so without key defender Kurt Zouma – as well as suspended duo Edson Alvarez and Lucas Paqueta.

West Ham captain Zouma missed the Carabao Cup win over Arsenal in midweek with David Moyes admitting he had picked up an injury.

Whenever the word injury and Zouma are mentioned in the same sentence it is cause for grave concern.

The Frenchman has a long history of knee issues and Moyes has admitted he cannot risk Zouma for quick turnarounds or three-game weeks.

Moyes did not go into much detail when revealing Zouma’s injury. So that left Hammers fans fearing another long-term lay-off.

Well Zouma may not play for West Ham at Brentford but there’s good news from Moyes after fears.

While there is doubt over his availability for the match against Thomas Frank’s men, it seems Zouma’s new injury certainly isn’t a serious one.

‘Let’s hope he’s in with a chance of playing’

Because he is already back in West Ham training.

“We’re not sure yet (if Kurt is available for Brentford),” Moyes has admitted.

“He’s done a little bit of training and we need to assess him and see how he goes.

“He trained a little bit on Wednesday and a bit on Thursday so let’s hope he’s in with a chance of playing.”

Thankfully for the Hammers, they appear to have more than capable back-up in the shape of Konstantinos Mavropanos.

As we reported on Hammers News, the Declan Rice sideshow in midweek deflected attention away from the fact Mavropanos was the low key man of the match against his old club Arsenal.

And the big Greek seemed to have a positive impact on the performance of inconsistent Nayef Aguerd.

Let’s hope that continues if he does deputise for Zouma at Brentford.
