West Ham United club captain Kurt Zouma has finally delivered a message to the fans, after keeping quiet during our horrendous run of form.
Kurt Zouma has been in really poor form himself for West Ham this season, and the Frenchman has angered some Hammers fans for failing to speak out after our defeats to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
Hammers boss David Moyes made Zouma captain at the start of the season, after Declan Rice left the London Stadium to join Arsenal.
It seemed like the wrong call at the time, and now it looks like the former Chelsea defender just doesn’t have it in him to wear the captain’s armband.
Zouma has received plenty of criticism from the West Ham fans for his poor performances this season, but many of us have been unhappy with the manner in which the 29-year-old has captained the side as well…

Zouma finally spoke out and highlighted how he believes the Hammers will get back on track.
The Frenchman also made the honest admission that he is not an archetypal captain in the way that he goes about his business, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“I captain my way and I don’t talk a lot outside,” he explained. “We have an experienced group and everyone talks to each other and we know what we’ve done wrong and what we can improve. The reality is we’re all tight and moving in the same way and we want to provide for everyone. You don’t need to shout to be a leader. We are not kids any more, we are grown-ups and we all understand what we’ve done wrong and we know we need to pull together and do better. Nobody wants to lose. Everyone wants to score, to win and to have fun, but it is what it is. You have to accept sometimes that it doesn’t go your way and, as a group, it hasn’t been the best of West Ham since the beginning of the year, but hopefully we’ll get back to what we really are and show the qualities we have in the dressing room.”
There is definitely a hint of passive aggressive in there from Kurt. We’re not suggesting that he should be going around screaming and shouting at his teammates.
However, it would be really nice to hear our captain speak after such damaging defeats, just like Mark Noble and Declan Rice did before him.
There are a lot of different attributes that players need in order to succeed as captain. Sometimes, a lot of the things go unnoticed behind the scenes, or incidents on the pitch when the skipper has a quiet word with the referee after noticing rotational fouls from the opposition…just little things like that.
Another key job for a captain is fronting up the fanbase and the media after big defeats, and Kurt Zouma quite simply hasn’t done that for West Ham this season.
I just don’t think the 29-year-old ever should have been made captain in the first place. It was a poor decision from Moyes in my opinion, and I strongly believe that the Scot needs to atone for that error by making a change very soon.
