Karim Benzema has won the prestigious Ballon d’Or award, and West Ham United youngster Harrison Ashby took to Twitter in reaction to the Frenchman’s achievement.
The Ballon d’Or award award was a long time coming for Karim Benzema, and he throughly deserves the recognition after his fine season for Real Madrid.
The 34-year-old striker bagged 44 goals and 15 assists for Real Madrid last term (Transfermarkt), and led his team to the La Liga title and the Champions League trophy.

The Ballon d’Or has been dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo over the past 15 years or so, with the Argentinian picking up the gong seven times and the Portuguese star with five to his name.
Benzema was rightly crowned king of Europe in 2022. It was no surprise when he beat the likes of Sadio Mane, Kevin De Bruyne and Robert Lewandowski to pick up the highly-coveted award.
It was perhaps surprising when West Ham youngster Harrison Ashby congratulated the Madrid and France striker on his achievement though…

The Real Madrid striker is a global superstar.
He is respected in footballing circles the world over and seems to have found a whole new level entirely since Ronaldo left the Santiago Bernabeu.

Benzema rightly picked up the Ballon d’Or last night and was congratulated by his teammates from Madrid and France.
Perhaps one message of congratulations that he wouldn’t have expected though was from one of West Ham United’s youngsters!
Harrison Ashby took to Twitter and labelled Karim Benzema as ‘The Goat’ after the Frenchman picked up the Ballon d’Or gong:
The Goat is stretching it a bit isn’t it? Lionel Messi will certainly have something to say about that!
Having said that, there is no denying Benzema’s unbelievable talent.
The 34-year-old has been far and away the best striker on the planet over the past two seasons.
He is doing amazing things for Real Madrid, week in, week out.
I was pleased to see Karim Benzema win the Ballon d’Or. And so was Hammers youngster Ashby by the sound of it.
