West Ham United’s new signing Kalvin Phillips has opened up on exactly what Declan Rice told him about the Hammers before he joined us.

Kalvin Phillips joined West Ham on loan from Manchester City in the January transfer window, and it seems as though Declan Rice played a role in the 28-year-old’s move to the London Stadium.

Hammers boss David Moyes is a big fan of Phillips, and the England international actually admitted that he nearly joined us in the summer of 2022.

Moyes wanted the 28-year-old to play alongside Rice then, but it obviously didn’t happen in the end. Now we have Phillips and Rice is off loving life with Arsenal.

Coincidentally, the two players will face each other at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon, when West Ham play host to Arsenal.

The Hammers fans may well give Rice a frosty reception this weekend, but Phillips’ latest comments suggest that the 25-year-old probably deserves a more respectful welcome back from the home fans…

Kalvin Phillips shares exactly what Declan Rice told him before he joined West Ham

The Hammers loanee has been speaking about just how happy he is to be at a club where he should get regular first-team football now.

And Phillips opened up on the role Rice played in him choosing West Ham, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“I know Dec quite well and I spoke to him about the Club, and he spoke very highly, and he loves the Club. He just said, ‘if there’s a place you are going to go, go to West Ham because you’ll love it there and have an amazing time because they’ve got great people’.”

Those simple 28 words from Dec really are so nice to hear, and Rice’s comments prove just how much players love being at the London Stadium, in spite of what we might hear to the contrary.

It’s a real shame that we never got to see Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice play alongside one another at West Ham. Instead, we’ll see them go head-to-head at the London Stadium on Sunday.

And the battle on the pitch won’t be quite as friendly as the love-in between the two off the field, that’s for sure.
