Joe Cole noticed a big problem at London Stadium during win over Manchester United

Joe Cole was highly critical of the West Ham United fans during our clash with Manchester United at the London Stadium today.

West Ham played host to Manchester United in the Premier League at the London Stadium today, and it was a very quiet affair indeed – something that Joe Cole highlighted.

The first-half was one of the dullest games of football I have ever seen in my life, and Hammers boss David Moyes would surely have been absolutely fuming with his players at half-time.

After the woeful showing at Anfield against Liverpool in midweek, the players had to show a real response, but it was non-existent…until the final 20 minutes that is.

Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus scored in the final quarter of the match from two sensational Lucas Paqueta assists.

The atmosphere inside the stadium during the final 20 minutes or so in comparison to the first two thirds of the match really was like chalk and cheese…

Joe Cole slates London Stadium atmosphere

The former Hammer was on punditry duty for TNT Sports today.

And Cole highlighted just how poor the noise was inside our Stratford home this afternoon, when speaking on TNT Sports today (December 23rd, 1:05pm):

“It’s really flat, there’s no intensity, West Ham fans are not really involved in the game. West Ham need to get the crowd in it because at the moment, I’ve never seen it so quiet here.”

In my opinion, it works both ways. The players need to give the fans something to shout about but sometimes, the onus really is on the supporters to lift the team.

The poor atmosphere at the London Stadium is something that we’ve known about for quite some time now, so Joe Cole was right to say what he said in my opinion.

The thing is, we know that the place can be bouncing – just look our Europa League win over Sevilla in 2022.

I think Moyes, the players and the fans all need to make more of an effort collectively to get the atmosphere where it needs to be. The final 20 minutes or so of the game today proved that the fans are more than capable of generating a top-class atmosphere inside the London Stadium, and hopefully we see more of that from now on.
