Jarrod Bowen gives honest response when asked about playing as a striker

Jarrod Bowen has responded when asked whether he’s happy playing in the striker role for West Ham United.

West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen has been deployed as a central striker over the past couple of weeks during the absence of Michail Antonio.

Hammers boss David Moyes has recently been pushing the narrative that the 26-year-old is well suited to playing as a centre-forward.

In my opinion, the former Hull City man is actually better suited to playing out wide on the right, but that’s not to say that he isn’t very useful when deployed as a striker.

And Bowen himself has now opened up about playing in the central role…

Jarrod Bowen comments on new striker role

The 26-year-old has looked pretty impressive when playing of a centre-forward for West Ham recently.

And Bowen responded when asked if he enjoys playing as a striker, or if he is modelling his game on anyone in particular, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“I wouldn’t say I’m looking specifically at anyone, but I am talking to the coaches regularly about the role in order to get better at it. It’s down to the manager where he wants to play me and I’ve got to be ready to play any position he asks me to play. I’ve always wanted to score goals, whether those have come from being up front or out wide. I’m glad it looks natural though.”

Whilst Antonio is out injured, Bowen will undoubtedly continue to deputise as a central striker.

When the Jamaica international returns to action though, or even better when Moyes signs a new striker, I fully expect Jarrod to move back out to the right wing position.

He is so dangerous for the Hammers out on the right hand flank, and we really miss him there when he’s playing centrally.

For the foreseeable future, Jarrod Bowen will continue in the striker role. However, it remains to be seen whether he stays there for the long-term.
