James Ward-Prowse played a key role for West Ham United against Olympiacos last night with his superb assist helping us to a 1-0 win.

West Ham were really poor during our win over Olympiacos in the Europa League, but James Ward-Prowse was one of the players who helped save our blushes in the end.

The 29-year-old has now bagged two goals and seven assists in 15 games for the Hammers (Transfermarkt), and he has received huge praise from fans and pundits alike since he moved to the London Stadium.

West Ham boss David Moyes deserves huge praise for bringing Ward-Prowse to the club. And the same can be said for the Scot when it comes to Lucas Paqueta.

The Brazilian is a mercurial play-maker who makes things happen even when we’re struggling as a team. He can be very frustrating at times, but you have to accept that, considering how much he offers inside the final third.

Ward-Prowse is clearly a huge fan of the 26-year-old…

Lucas Paqueta scores after James Ward-Prowse assist

The former Southampton man spoke to Joe Cole, Carlton Cole and TNT Sports host Lynsey Hipgrave after our win over Olympiacos.

And he responded when asked what it’s like to play with Paqueta week in, week out, when speaking on TNT Sports (Thursday November 9th, 10:10pm):

“I’m surprised he didn’t control it on his chest, flick it up and do something crazy before finishing it simply. He’s a fantastic player and does the complete opposite to what I would do in situations. He’s a special player, a typical Brazilian style player, he just looks like he’s having fun in the streets – a pleasure to play with.”

It really was superb work from both players last night. We were struggling massively as a team against a well-drilled European outfit, and the Hammers duo dug us out of a hole.

We really do need to start playing better as a team, but the fact that we’ve got so many match-winners is a very comforting thought.

Paqueta was actually really poor on the whole last night, but his quality shone through in the end when we needed him most.

And the same can be said about James Ward-Prowse really, after his superb late assist helped us to what was a vital three points against Olympiacos.
