West Ham fans have been championing the fact that Alphonse Areola is not only their number one but the Premier League’s too.
He may have had to play second fiddle to Lukasz Fabianski over the last two seasons with the Hammers.
But the towering Frenchman was handed the number one spot this season and he certainly hasn’t disappointed.

And the site has revealed that Areola is the highest rated goalkeeper in the Prem at the halfway stage of the campaign.
The 6ft 5in star has an average match rating of 6.92/10 – the best in the top flight.
He is ahead of Spurs counterpart Guglielmo Vicario (6.91), Bournemouth’s Neto (6.85), Burnley’s James Trafford (6.83) and – somewhat surprisingly – Man United’s André Onana (6.78).
A closer look at Areola’s West Ham stats show just how important he has been for David Moyes’ side.
And he is clearly one of the key reasons the club starts 2024 in the top six.
He has been West Ham’s man of the match in three of his 17 Prem appearances so far this season.
He makes an average of four saves per game.
Areola has put in FIVE performances rated over 8/10 so far this season, the best of which were in wins at Brighton and Arsenal where he scored 8.31 on each occasion.
