West Ham United on loan midfielder Kalvin Phillips has apparently just been dealt a really big blow.
Kalvin Phillips joined Manchester City from Leeds in the summer of 2022 for around £42 million (ESPN), but he really struggled there before joining West Ham on loan in January of this year.
Phillips has had a really tough time in East London as well over the past couple of months, and David Moyes recently admitted that the 28-year-old still needs more time to get up to speed and to discover his full match fitness.
The former Leeds man has been miles off the pace for the Hammers so far, and he really doesn’t look to be anywhere near the levels required to get into our central midfield.
The signing of Phillips really does seem like a strange one from Moyes, and now things have just got even worse for the midfielder…

It’s gone form bad to worse for West Ham man Kalvin Phillips
Acording to highly respected football journalist David Ornstein, Phillips has been dropped by Gareth Southgate from the latest England squad.
England face games against Brazil and Belgium over the next couple of weeks, and it will be the final squad before Southgate names his training group for Euro 2024 on May 21st.
Phillips has been a mainstay in the England camp over the past three or four years, but his poor form and lack of regular football since the summer of 2022 has clearly finally caught up with him.
The big problem that he faces now is getting back into the Hammers starting lineup between now and the end of the season.
When all of our players are fit, I just don’t see a scenario whereby he manages to do that. Kalvin Phillips has been so poor for West Ham since he joined us two months ago.
Now the onus is on the 28-year-old to prove everyone wrong, Gareth Southgate included. The pressure is certainly on, and the manner in which he responds will be a sign of whether he’s up for the fight or not.
