David Moyes has made a bizarre, yet extremely honest admission about on-loan West Ham United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
West Ham manager David Moyes brought Kalvin Phillips to the London Stadium on a season-long loan from Manchester City in January transfer window.
The 28-year-old has made a really slow start to life with the Hammers though, after a horror debut against Bournemouth, poor substitute performances during our defeats to Manchester United and Arsenal, and then a shocker against Nottingham Forest that culminated in him getting sent-off.
Moyes has insisted that Phillips is looking good on the training ground, but we’re yet to see him produce the goods in a match for us.
The Scot is clearly desperate for the England international to come good, but the fact we are all waiting for him to get fit really is so frustrating…

David Moyes makes extremely honest Kalvin Phillips admission
The Scot spoke to reporters this afternoon ahead of our clash with Burnley on Sunday.
And he responded when asked for an update on the fitness of Kalvin Phillips, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“He didn’t necessarily need to be improved, he just needed game-time and that takes a bit of time. Kalvin will continue to improve with the more game-time he gets and he is showing that at the moment. Hopefully we can bring him along and get him back to the level where he was in recent seasons.”
I mean, it’s no surprise really is it – Phillips hadn’t started a Premier League game since May before he joined us.
In addition to that, if Moyes was so set on having some proper cover for Edson Alvarez, why did he not just keep Flynn Downes at the club in the summer?
None of it makes any sense to me. Signing another central midfielder was arguably the last thing that Moyes needed to do.
The Scot really should have signed a striker, a left-back, a right-back and a centre-back before he even considered bringing in a defensive midfielder.
David Moyes signing Kalvin Phillips in January seemed like a strange move at the time. And the fact that the West Ham boss just admitted that the 28-year-old still needs more time to get up to scratch makes the fact that he signed him on loan two months ago even more bizarre.
