West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez has been speaking candidly about his summer move to the London Stadium.

West Ham signed Edson Alvarez from Ajax for around £34 million in the summer transfer window (Daily Mail), and he has already established himself as a vital player for us – the glue that holds the team together if you will.

And the signing of Alvarez has definitely been a major contributing factor to that. The midfielder, who turned 26 today, has proven to be a fabulous signing for West Ham.

He has added some real aggression, bite and tenacity to our central midfield ranks. £34 million already seems like an absolute snip for the East London outfit.

However, he has just made a hugely concerning admission…

Edson Alvarez makes worrying Bayern Munich admission

The Mexico international was linked with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, before he moved to the London Stadium.

And when speaking to Sky Sports Germany, Alvarez lifted the lid on interest from Bayern Munich in the summer before he joined the Hammers, whilst making a concerning admission:

“It was a very busy summer. In the last weeks (of the transfer window), I knew about the interest from FC Bayern. Everything can happen. I’m always open, but at the moment, I’m really enjoying my time at West Ham. I want to play and show the people my best qualities. But in the summer, you never know what‘s going on.“

Now, despite the fact that he said he’s enjoying his time at West Ham, it’s slightly concerning that he openly admitted that he’s always open to the idea of moving to Bayern Munich in the future.

What if they come knocking for him next summer, or any other Champions League club for that matter?

All we can hope for is that the West Ham United owners are able to match the lofty ambitions of Edson Alvarez over the next few years. In fairness to them, there have already been signs that they are – the signing of Mohammed Kudus is a great example.

The 26-year-old midfielder has already proven himself to be an exceptional addition to Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium. Whether he remains at the club for the long-term remains to be seen though.
