Tony Cottee has reacted to West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League on social media.

The Hammers’ fate was sealed on Sunday evening following Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over David Moyes’ Everton.

Even though Nuno Espirito Santo’s side beat Leeds 3-0 at the London Stadium, the damage was already done.

Cottee has now looked ahead to the 2026/27 Championship campaign with a worrying prediction.

Who is most to BLAME for West Ham going down? 😠

Tony Cottee reacts to West Ham relegation from Premier League

Many football fans will expect West Ham to win the Championship comfortably next season following their relegation.

They were significantly better than Wolves and Burnley this season and will arguably be the biggest club in the second division.

West Ham’s issue is that they could lose several key players this summer, including Jarrod Bowen and Mateus Fernandes.

They will also need a new manager to replace Nuno as they undergo a major rebuild at the London Stadium.

Which players could actually BENEFIT from a Championship season? 🤨

West Ham Championship Xi predicted

Cottee certainly does not expect it to be easy for the Hammers to achieve promotion at the first attempt.

He claimed that West Ham “will be back” in the Premier League, but he suggested it might not be as early as next summer.

“Absolutely gutted,” he tweeted. “As I said earlier, it’s about the 38 games… We’ve not been consistently good enough all season…

“Massive changes required, from top to bottom, to sort out our magnificent club! We will be back, I just don’t know when.”

Cottee’s mention of West Ham needing to change from “top to bottom” hinted at a problem with the club’s hierarchy.

Most supporters would agree that David Sullivan and the board are largely to blame for the Hammers’ recent downfall.

Hopefully, Cottee’s scepticism will not be proven right, and West Ham will turn things around sooner rather than later.
