Joe Cole has ripped into the West Ham United fans about some of the treatment received by David Moyes.
David Moyes has been on the wrong end of some fairly strong criticism from the West Ham fans over the past year or so, and Joe Cole has now launched a fierce defence of the Scot.
The Hammers are flying high in sixth spot in the Premier League table right now, and are safely through to the last 16 of the Europa League.
So on face value, it is hard to argue against the narrative that Moyes has done a fantastic job at the London Stadium.
However, not all of the West Ham fans are on board with our 60-year-old gaffer. Just a couple of months ago during our away game against Burnley, the traveling fans bombarded Moyes with chants of ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’, and the same happened at Bramall Lane last weekend.
Former Hammer Joe Cole has now aimed a message at those fans in retaliation to their chants at Moyes…

Joe Cole launches passionate defence of David Moyes
The ex-West Ham star is a big fan of Moyes and the job that he has done since returning to the club just over four years ago.
Cole admitted that he’s baffled by some of the treatment that the Scot has received from certain sections of Hammers fans, when speaking exclusively to talkSPORT:
“It stuns me. I’ve been lucky enough to cover West Ham. We have to remember where the club was when David walked in the door and what he’s achieved. It’s incredible. If anything, it’s one of the biggest three years of David’s career. It’s been incredible. For a club like West Ham to win the trophy they have [the Europa Conference League], reach another European semi-final and to achieve knockout European football three years in a row [is brilliant]. I’m not saying it to try and list all the achievements. For me, it’s just facts. In terms of David Moyes, I find it incredible that any West Ham fan or anyone in and around the club would think anything other than give him the contract he’s got, get behind him and lets carry on and build and see where we can go.”
Cole certainly has a point, and we have to remember exactly what Moyes has done for us since he took the reigns at the London Stadium for the second time in December 2019.
However, the argument against Cole’s comments is very clear. Any fan who pays money to travel around the country watching their team has the right to voice any opinion they want.
And let’s be honest, some of the football deployed by Moyes really is horrendous to watch – it’s anti-football if you like.
The Scot has the players at the club now needed to implement a really attractive brand of football. So the next three or four months will prove whether he has what it takes to lift us up to the next level.
Joe Cole clearly has a very strong opinion on David Moyes but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be prepared to listen to the match going fans. It is a game of opinions after all.
