‘How will we cope without Kudus’ David Moyes makes honest West Ham top six admission

David Moyes has given an honest verdict on West Ham United’s top six hopes in the Premier League this season.

West Ham are currently flying high in the Premier League table right now, and the top six should be well within our reach this season.

Hammers boss David Moyes will be without Mohammed Kudus for around four or five weeks starting from today, after Ghana refused our appeal to release him for AFCON a day later, following tonight’s game.

Lucas Paqueta is currently suffering with a slight knee injury as well, so there are concerns that we might not be able to last the pace in the race for the European spots this season.

That said, a win tonight would take us five points clear of seventh placed Manchester United, and then we’d be in pole position to secure a fourth consecutive European campaign.

Unfortunately for us though, Moyes has played things down yet again though…

Moyes responds to West Ham top six ambitions

The Scot has always played things down to the media throughout his career to date.

And he was at it again when reporters asked him yesterday about his hopes for a top six finish this season, as quoted by the Evening Standard:

“I think we are still up against it with the level of competition but we’re never going to say we’re not going for it. I think the next month with the boys going away to the African Nations, just the whole programme. How can we cope without Kudus who has been sensational? How is Paqueta’s injury?

Now, as long as Moyes is more ambitious when talking to his players behind closed doors, then I have no problem with him speaking with such a downbeat attitude to the media.

The thing is, we missed fantastic opportunities to finish inside the top four during the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons. And I have a feeling that Moyes would have bene playing everything down in the dressing room.

The stars have aligned for West Ham to finish inside the top six this season, with the likes of Newcastle and Manchester United both really struggling.

Let’s hope we get three points tonight and really cement ourselves as the favourites in the race for sixth spot.
