Has the true reason for star boy Mohammed Kudus’ amazing start to life at West Ham United now been uncovered?

It says everything about the electric start Mohammed Kudus has made to life at West Ham that he is already being sorely missed before he kicks a ball in anger at AFCON.

The Hammers will be denied his services until the turn of the month at the earliest and mid-February at worst.

His absence has already been felt in drab draws with Brighton and Championship side Bristol City.

They were matches for which he would have been unavailable through injury anyway as it transpired.

But they nonetheless offered West Ham fans a glimpse at what the next month could look like without their £38m star boy.

Anyone who watched Ajax – or Ghana for that matter – prior to Kudus’ move to east London would have known West Ham were getting a proper player.

True reason for Kudus’ amazing West Ham start?

But even some of the best talents across Europe and the world have failed the English football test down the years.

A happy, settled home life always helps of course.

And it can be difficult to find that when moving to a new city in a new country.

So has the true reason for Kudus’ amazing start to life at West Ham now been uncovered?

Anang’s gang

That reason being West Ham’s academy goalkeeper Joseph Anang.

Like his fellow Ghanaian, Kudus is 3,000 miles from home.

But third choice Hammers goalkeeper Anang has carved out an extremely important role within David Moyes’ squad – as Kudus’ right-hand man.

Anang has very become Kudus’ West Ham wing man.

And the young ‘keeper revealed in a recent interview with the club’s official website the crucial role he is playing in making east London home for Kudus.

‘He gets me and I get him’

“‘Starboy’ is my guy and as soon as I knew Mo was being signed, we found an instant connection, and he is so humble,” Anang said.

“We both know how things are back home and if you are not humble, you must be crazy. He is a star, but he is still humble and that’s one of the things I really like about him. We are two Ghanaian boys in London! We came from similar backgrounds, he gets me and I get him as well. I drive him around in my little Lamborghini! Actually, it’s a Volkswagen Polo, my banger!

“We spend a lot of time together and love our food, especially Jollof. We either go to the restaurant or get a delivery to Mo’s place. We’ll watch games together and have lots of conversations about our journeys and him coming here and seeing him smashing the Premier League has been my highlight so far this season.

“It gives me more motivation, 100 per cent, because we have had similar journeys and come from similar backgrounds as well.”

Anang may not get much game time for West Ham. But this makes him one of the most important members of the squad without a shadow of a doubt.

Long may it continue.
