The Hammers head coach has personally stepped in regarding the Hammers’ negotiations with Angel Gomes.
Angel Gomes has been on West Ham’s radar for quite some time now, and he will be available on a free transfer in the summer.
He’s an elite player and has been billed as the ‘solution to England’s central midfield woes’ (Evening Standard).
Claret and Hugh claim that Angel Gomes has turned down a move to West Ham this summer.
That is in spite of the fact that Potter tried to intervene late on with a personal phone-call to the 24-year-old Lille midfielder.
That’s a big blow for the Hammers because Gomes would have been a transformational signing for the Hammers.
Big West Ham clear-out incoming
Central midfield is definitely a department at West Ham that requires attention this summer.
Guido Rodriguez and Andy Irving will almost certainly leave the Hammers.
Whilst Edson Alvarez, Tomas Soucek and even James Ward-Prowse face uncertain futures as well.
The Hammers are in desperate need of a powerful box-to-box ball carrier and we need someone very comfortable in possession as well.
Angel Gomes would have been the perfect man for the job at West Ham, but it seems like that ship has very much sailed already.
