A German journalist has confirmed West Ham’s worst fears over a Liverpool move for Tim Steidten but there’s good news.
It seems so typical of West Ham’s luck that the minute they’re onto a good thing, one of their rivals tries to spoil the party.
And that is the case for the Hammers after it emerged Liverpool want to lure away technical director Tim Steidten.
Football Insider claimed Steidten is a leading contender to become Liverpool’s new director of football.
The report claimed the Reds have identified West Ham’s recruitment chief as their prime target to replace Jorg Schmadtke, who is on his way out of Anfield at the end of the January transfer window.
In an effort to ease fears among West Ham fans we reached out to the most senior source inside the Hammers boardroom on the Liverpool and Steidten claim.

Journalist confirms worst fears over Liverpool and Steidten
Unfortunately the response was not as reassuring as supporters might have hoped.
We exclusively reported on Hammers News that the top source inside West Ham admitted it would ‘not be easy’ to stop Liverpool bringing Steidten in.
There was further bad news for the West Ham yesterday when it emerged that former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards had turned down a return to the club.
Now a German journalist has confirmed West Ham’s worst fears over a Liverpool move for Steidten but there’s good news.
Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has confirmed the Liverpool hierarchy do want to lure Steidten away from the London Stadium.
But – crucially – Plettenberg has stated Steidten is happy at West Ham at the moment. And at this stage there has been no direct contact from the Reds.

But there’s good news for Hammers
“Yes, Tim Steidten is one of the candidates to become the new Sporting Director at FC Liverpool!” Plettenberg states.
“Steidten (is) happy at West Ham as their technical director.
“He has finalised the deals of Alvarez, Ward-Prowse, Kudus, Phillips and more. No direct contact with Liverpool at this stage.”
Steidten has been such a hit in east London that West Ham fans even have their own terrace chant for him.
So losing him to Liverpool would be a major blow.
Unlike with players, where the selling club usually holds all the power, it is very difficult to stop directors and other such staff members leaving their roles for rivals.
That has been evident in the last week with Omar Berrada leaving Manchester City for bitter rivals Man United.
Supporters will be hoping Steidten remains very much a happy Hammer.
