West Ham are back to winning ways on the pitch but the Hammers are still capable of scoring occasional own goals off it.
Last month we reported on the shoddy appearance of West Ham’s training ground in east London.
West Ham’s Rush Green base could certainly do with a big money overhaul.
But last month Rush Green literally needed a big M of a different kind. That’s after the ‘M’ from the West Ham United lettering which adorns the wall outside it went missing.
Hammers supporters posted pictures from outside the Romford training base showing the missing letter ‘M’ from West Ham United.
Sign of the times for West Ham’s long ridiculed training base
The walls looked like they could do with a lick of paint. And a cheap looking West Ham badge canvas cover over green entrance gates painted a pretty sorry picture for a Premier League facility.
Many supporters made their feelings clear that it was not befitting the world’s 18th richest club, where hundreds of millions of pounds worth of talent trains on a daily basis.
Well fans won’t believe what West Ham have now done at the club’s Rush Green training ground.

Missing M replaced with upside down W at Rush Green
In their infinite wisdom, thrifty West Ham replaced the missing ‘M’ with an upside down ‘W’.
Don’t check the date, this is not an April Fools.
West Ham fans flooded social media with pictures of the upside-down W sticking out like a sore thumb on the wall outside Rush Green. And supporters ridiculed the club.
Thankfully, though, West Ham realised they had made a big mistake – or should that be wistake.
And the club has now removed all the lettering from the wall entirely.
You can see the changing face of the Rush Green wall in the post from board confidant Sean Whetstone below.
Club admits defeat and remove West Ham lettering altogether
It remains to be seen whether the club is planning to replace it with a new sign.
One would hope so.
But supporters who pass by Rush Green will undoubtedly keep social media updated.
It’s all well and good having a laugh about the matter. But there is a serious side to all this in the long term.
West Ham’s ownership has a combined net worth of over £10.5bn – the fourth highest in the top flight.
And the club was once again listed in the top 20 richest clubs in world football in the 2024 Deloitte Money League.
At some point in the near future the club’s owners must give West Ham the modern, state-of-the-art training complex befitting a top class Premier League side.
West Ham’s training ground facilities have been a running joke among fans for too long.
David Moyes has spoken in the past about wanting the Hammers to use some of the money invested by Czech billionaire co-owner Daniel Kretinsky to improve the training ground.
And the manager even revealed the club had to shift training to the London Stadium before the Arsenal drubbing as the pitches at Rush Green were not good enough.
