ExWHUEmployee has addressed claims of Michael Carrick returning to West Ham to become the first-team manager.

Nuno Espirito Santo is in sack danger at West Ham as the 3-0 defeat against Wolves has put immense pressure on him.

A loss against Nottingham Forest could see Nuno leaving the London Stadium for good, midway through the transfer window.

Humiliation at Molineux…

Where does this rank among West Ham's WORST ever Premier League defeats?

Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United appears dejected during the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United at Molineux on January 03, 2026 in Wolverhampton, England.

Michael Carrick not being considered by West Ham

Don Hutchison believes Michael Carrick is the ideal candidate for West Ham should they opt to part ways with Nuno.

Carrick, after his time at Manchester United, spent three years at Middlesbrough, but failed to get them promoted.

He parted ways with them before the start of this season and has been out of work since.

Thus, if the Irons are to hire him, they will not have to pay any compensation.

However, ExWHUEmployee has told Hammers News exclusively that Carrick is not an option being considered by the hierarchy.

While his name has been thrown into the mix, he is not viewed as a potential replacement for Nuno.

Hammers News also understand that talks are not being held with other managers, so a sack is not imminent.

If you could replace Nuno with one out-of-work manager, who are you picking?

And why?

Can Nuno survive the sack post Nottingham Forest loss?

Losing to Nottingham Forest would be devastating for the Hammers as it would mean that they are seven points adrift of safety.

After 21 games, a seven-point deficit would be nigh on unassailable, and it would require a miracle in the next 17 matches in order to avoid relegation.

Should that happen, there are very likely to be showdown talks with the owners over what his plans are to rectify the current state of affairs.

If the hierarchy remain unsatisfied with his answers, a sack could be on the cards, even though they have backed him with two new signings in the January transfer window.

Has any team overcome such a deficit in the past?

Leicester City found themselves seven points adrift of safety after 29 games in the 2014/15 season, but managed to pull off a great escape in order to survive.

Other clubs, if the gap has been this big, have usually gone down, so the odds would not be in the Hammers’ favour.

At that point, the owners would have to free up more money in January or decide to part ways with Nuno and bring in a survival specialist.
