West Ham United have been handed a big boost in the race to sign Jota from Al-Ittihad in the January window.
The door may well now be wide open for West Ham to sign Jota in the January transfer window, a player who we’ve been linked with signing this month already.
Hammers boss David Moyes needs to bring in attacking reinforcements before the winter window slams shut, with Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio currently all out injured, and Mohammed Kudus away at AFCON with Ghana.
Jota, 24, has experienced a really tough time out in Saudi Arabia, since joining Al-Ittihad from Celtic for around £25 million back in July (Sky Sports).
He has played only 11 games for the Saudi Pro League side, scoring just two goals in the process (Transfermarkt).
However, the Portuguese forward is an undoubted talent, and he could be a really useful option for West Ham in my opinion…
West Ham have a chance to sign Jota
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has been speaking to Give Me Sport about Jota’s future with the Saudi Arabian club.
And it seems as though the former Celtic ace faces a really uncertain future with Al-Ittihad:
“They are keeping an eye on Jota. His situation is extraordinary. He only joined Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023 for £25m on a £200,000 per-week contract. But when the Saudi Pro League window closed, he was eliminated from the squad, and he’s not featured. So, he wants to go, and I think Al-Ittihad would be happy for him to leave as well, provided the deal is right. So, West Ham are just keeping an eye on that situation. They wouldn’t want to be paying those kinds of wages, though, so it would require Jota to be able to take a cut in those wages.”
The 24-year-old bagged an impressive 28 goals and 26 assists in 83 games for Celtic during his time with the Glasgow giants (Transfermarkt).
He has been described as a ‘magician’ and a true entertainer’ by Football talent scout, and he can comfortably operate on either wing.
Jota is a bag of tricks and possesses exceptional technical ability – something that will make the West Ham fans fall in love with him, if he knuckles down and works hard of course.
I think it would be well worth Moyes’s time to have a punt on the Portuguese forward. Whether the Scot makes a concrete attempt to bring him to the London Stadium remains to be seen though.
