Don’t forget unsung star Tomas Soucek West Ham boss David Moyes told Rio Ferdinand and Joe Cole as the duo heaped praise elsewhere.

West Ham have all but sealed Premier League safety with a deserved win over Manchester United at the London Stadium.

The Hammers were the better side for large spells against a jaded looking Man United side.

And David Moyes’ men deservedly led at the break, although it was not without some long overdue good fortune.

Said Benrahma fired a weak attempt at goal from outside the box and David de Gea made a hash of it, as it bounced into the net off his outstretched hand.

West Ham had earned the luck, though.

To a man the Hammers were absolutely magnificent.

Don’t forget unsung star Tomas Soucek West Ham boss David Moyes tells Rio Ferdinand and Joe Cole as duo heap praise elsewhere

Two players in particular were picked out for the plaudits by former West Ham duo Rio Ferdinand and Joe Cole on BT Sport after the game.

Ferdinand and Cole discussed the match with Moyes live on air. And they told Moyes they thought captain fantastic Declan Rice and Lucas Paqueta had been key to West Ham’s victory.

But don’t forget unsung star Tomas Soucek West Ham boss Moyes told Ferdinand and Cole as the duo heaped praise elsewhere.

Moyes agreed with Ferdinand and Cole and praised Rice and Paqueta. But he made sure to put a word in for Soucek too.

“To be fair Tomas Soucek as well (is so important),” Moyes said on BT Sport.

“The three of them together have got a great blend if we can get it to work.

“Not all (the time) this season have we been able to get it to work but tonight I thought it worked really well.”

West Ham can bank on big Czech once more

Moyes was right to highlight Soucek. This was the big Czech at his best. The selfless fan favourite has been on the end of some real slander this season.

But he is the very definition of a team player and does so much dogged, donkey work off the ball which goes unnoticed.

West Ham fans have been praising big Tom on social media after that display. And it was great to see Moyes highlighting his contribution too.

Soucek has been desperately unlucky not to have had several more goals to his name this season. He has seen several ruled out by VAR – as was the case again against Man United.

And he has also had some rotten luck in front of goal, hitting posts, bars and defenders getting glancing touches to stop him from scoring at different times.

There is a goal or two coming for Super Tom – let’s hope they help the Hammers lift that trophy back at his home of Slavia Prague next month.
