David Sullivan confidant lifts lid on potential West Ham move to sign ‘special’ £92k-a-wk striker

West Ham United’s transfer business is far from being done this summer it seems.

Julen Lopetegui admitted as much just a few days ago, when he suggested that he wants two top-class players in every single position at West Ham.

The Hammers head coach already has an incredibly exciting group of players at his disposal at the London Stadium.

And despite the need to sell some of the deadwood, more new arrivals could well be en route to East London.

It has been a fabulous transfer window so far for the Hammers, but the addition of another top-class centre-forward would take us to another level entirely.

So could we really be in for another elite striker? There have been many reports doing the rounds about someone in particular joining West Ham this summer.

But is there any truth to them?

Tammy Abraham to West Ham update provided

It had actually been claimed only yesterday that the Hammers had made a firm move for Roma striker Tammy Abraham.

The powerhouse centre-forward seems almost certain to leave Roma this summer, with a fire-sale underway at the Stadio Olimpico.

So could his next destination be the London Stadium?

It seems like our hopes of that happening are actually slim to none unfortunately.

According to Hammers insider Sean Whetstone, reports suggesting that Abraham is a target for West Ham are ‘nonsense’.

Abraham earns around £92k-a-week (Salary Sport), but it is unclear what the so-called ‘tax implications’ are.

Pros and cons of West Ham signing Abraham

Well, this may well be a moot point after Whetstone’s claim, but I still think he could be someone who emerges on our radar late on in the window.

Tammy Abraham would be the perfect signing for West Ham, and he’d provide Lopetegui with a completely different option through the middle.

Just as importantly, the 26-year-old would be a major upgrade on Michail Antonio. We cannot afford to head into a new season with the 34-year-old the first or second choice centre-forward.

Described as ‘special’ by Aston Villa’s official website, Tammy has done it at the very highest level for a sustained period of time now.

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, the 26-year-old is a real handful in the air, and he possesses decent pace as well.

The former Chelsea man possesses a really impressive career goalscoring record, with 130 goals in in 339 career appearances for club and country to his name.

However, there would be one huge concern about potentially bringing him to the London Stadium.

He has missed 301 days of football since suffering an ACL injury when playing for Roma in 2023.

Tammy Abraham has suffered persistent ankle problems throughout his career as well, so that is obviously a worry.

As things stand though, it doesn’t seem like West Ham will be signing him this summer. Let’s see what happens.
