David Moyes says Emerson Palmieri has just had his best game for West Ham as he singles the Hammers star out for praise.

For the 60,000 odd fans overcoming more travel disruption to make West Ham’s must-win clash with Aston Villa there are not too many positives to take from the 1-1 draw.

Especially with no-man’s land Villa there for the taking.

A point may have lifted West Ham out of the relegation zone on goal difference. But there are now 10 – yes TEN – games involving our relegation rivals this week while the Hammers don’t play until April.

The landscape is about to change dramatically and it will take a string of hugely favourable results to keep West Ham out of the bottom three going into the international break.

West Ham’s manager is understandably keen to accentuate any positives right now to deflect from the woeful shortcomings of his expensively assembled team.

And Moyes says Emerson has just had his best game for West Ham as he singles the Hammers star out for praise.

The former Chelsea left-back has taken far too long to adjust since joining West Ham for £13.5m in the summer.

But West Ham fans have liked what they have seen from the Brazil-born Italian international of late.

Alongside Said Benrahma and Kurt Zouma, Emerson was West Ham’s best player in the draw against Villa.

And Moyes highlighted the left-back’s performance in his post-match press conference.

“I don’t know about you but I thought Emerson actually played very well today,” Moyes said in his post-match presser (Football.London).

“I thought it was probably one of his best games for us as well. I think there were good things about our performance. We had a good result in midweek but I didn’t like the performance. Today I don’t hugely like the result but I certainly thought the performance was much better than what we’ve been showing.”

The same could not be said for another of Moyes’ summer signings – who former Hammer Tony Gale can’t believe is an international football after what he saw.
