David Moyes makes Emerson Palmieri admission ahead of Freiburg vs West Ham clash

David Moyes has just absolutely raved about West Ham United duo Lucas Paqueta and Emerson Palmieri.

Although David Moyes raved about the two West Ham players ahead of the Freiburg Europa League game tonight, his comments do concern me when it comes to Emerson Palmieri.

The Italian has struck up a magnificent relationship with Lucas Paqueta down the Hammers’ left-hand flank this season.

However, the 29-year-old’s form deteriorated badly when the Brazilian star was out injured for seven weeks just after the turn of the new year – something that I addressed right here on Hammers News a few weeks ago.

The fact that one player is so reliant on one of his teammates is a big concern if you ask me, and Moyes has now highlighted just how much the two players dove-tail off one another…

David Moyes makes Emerson and Paqueta claim ahead of Freiburg

Moyes addressed the media ahead of our crunch Europa League clash with Freiburg out in Germany tonight.

And the Scot highlighted just how well the Italian and Brazilian work together, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“We’ve been very impressed with the partnership of Emerson and Lucas Paquetá for most of this season. Lucas Paquetá has only just come back from injury which has been a big miss for us as he has been great and it has also benefitted Emerson’s performances as well, so both of them have done really well.”

I think the fact that Emerson is so reliant on Paqueta in order to perform to his best is a big concern.

Firstly, if the 26-year-old is out injured for a while, as he has been recently, the former Chelsea man just isn’t the same player.

And secondly, what if Paqueta leaves to join Man City in the summer? Does that mean that we will not only lose the South American, but also lose Emerson’s brilliance?

It’s a big concern that Moyes needs to address. Either he signs a player with a similar profile to Paqueta, or he devises a new system that will help get the best out of Emerson, even when the ex-Lyon man isn’t playing.

David Moyes was clearly trying to praise Emerson and Paqueta ahead of the Freiburg clash tonight, but he’s only highlighted a really worrying situation as far as I’m concerned.
