David Moyes is making the same mistake yet again at West Ham United, and it’s unforgivable in my view.
The Hammers boss is under real pressure in his role at the London Stadium, and rightly so.

West Ham are currently sitting just outside the relegation zone with only 12 Premier League games remaining this season.

One of the main problems that Moyes has is the fact that more than half of his eight summer signings are really struggling for form and have been all season long.
Out of all the new arrivals, Gianluca Scamacca has arguably been the biggest disappointment so far. I’m not blaming him one little bit though.
Moyes just hasn’t set up his team to help the 24-year-old flourish and he has previous with absolutely killing talented centre-forwards…
David Moyes repeating the same old mistake at West Ham
Moyes has been moaning about Scamacca’s application in training in recent weeks. And whilst there may be some truth to that, the Scot isn’t doing everything that he can to get the best out of the Italian.
And what’s more, there are no excuses for him. Whatever he says about the ex-Sassuolo ace ends up looking bad for him.
There are three scenarios that led to Moyes signing the Italian hitman in the summer…
a) He was forced to sign Scamacca, b) he signed him not knowing that he’s someone who can’t play up top on his own or c) Moyes thought he could get the best out of the 24-year-old by playing his usual system.
They’re all unforgivable in my opinion. If the answer was a, he should have grown a backbone and walked if necessary.
If it was b, it highlights just how poor our recruitment and scouting really is – completely haphazard with no direction, planning or philosophy. And finally option c. If it was this, it highlights Moyes’s pure arrogance once agin.
Exactly the same thing happened with Sebastien Haller.

West Ham signed the 28-year-old striker from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019 for around £45 million (The Guardian). However, he flopped at the London Stadium and was sold to Ajax for just £20 million in January 2021 (The Times).
Haller is a very good striker and he failed at West Ham because he was isolated through the middle on his own. History is repeating itself with Scamacca…
Both strikers are at their best when playing in and around another striker or two narrow wingers.
Now the Italian is being linked with a move away from the London Stadium. Moyes will only have himself to blame if the West Ham striker leaves.
It’s not like he hasn’t been warned is it?
