Hammers boss David Moyes awakes to a holy trinity of injury boosts for Spurs but awaits the fate of his big West Ham duo.
They say bad things come in threes but for West Ham this week it seems the opposite is true.
Because the worried Scot has been handed not one, not two but three major injury boosts ahead of the huge derby with Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday.
West Ham have been hit by an injury crisis at the worst possible time with the club’s Premier League survival on the line.
Moyes was understandably concerned after the 1-1 draw with Chelsea, saying the Hammers were ‘down to the bare bones’ after new injuries to Lucas Paqueta and Nayef Aguerd meant he was left with £173.5m worth of talent in the treatment room.
It left West Ham facing the prospect of going into the game against bitter rivals Tottenham with a host of key players unavailable.
Kurt Zouma (£30m), Maxwel Cornet (£17.5m), Paqueta (£51m), Aguerd (£30m), Alphonse Areola (£10m) and Gianluca Scamacca (£35m) were all – as of the weekend – sidelined ahead of the match against Spurs.
Today, though, Moyes awakes to a holy trinity of injury boosts for Spurs but awaits fate of big West Ham duo.
As reported by Hammers News yesterday, West Ham star Areola was pictured back training in boost number one for Moyes.
West Ham’s media team posted a picture gallery on the club’s official website showing the squad training at the London Stadium.
And picture number 19 brings a welcome boost for the Hammers as Areola is pictured all smiles in his training gear as he makes his comeback from a hamstring injury.
Then came boost number two for the Hammers in the shape of Scamacca.
The Italian striker, who has been out since injuring his knee at Leeds last month, sent a message on social media saying he’s ‘back home’ in London ahead of West Ham’s crunch London derby against Spurs.
Then last night came boost number three for Moyes when Maxwel Cornet, who has been out for over four months with a rare calf issue, posted his own comeback message on Instagram stories.
Cornet said ‘very soon’ alongside a crossed Hammers emoji over a picture of him in the gym.
Areola will go straight back into the squad for Spurs. Whether Scamacca or Cornet have a chance of making it on the bench remains to be seen. But it is thought Cornet would need a couple of weeks training with the team before being considered for selection.
The Hammers do still face an anxious wait for news of their big duo Paqueta and Aguerd, though, after assessment and scans on their shoulder and groin injuries.
Fingers crossed for more much-needed good news on that front too.
