Danny Ings shares very interesting 7-word response when asked about leaving West Ham

West Ham United striker Danny Ings has been the target of heavy criticism from the fans over the past 18 months, and rightly so.

West Ham tried desperately to shift Danny Ings in the summer, but were unsuccessful in doing so in the end.

Danny Ings joined West Ham from Aston Villa in the summer of 2023 for around £15 million.

However, he has scored only five goals for the Hammers since then – an absolutely woeful return.

The experienced centre-forward was heavily tipped to leave West Ham in the summer transfer window.

It was then claimed that the 32-year-old had no intention of leaving the London Stadium though, much to the detriment of Julen Lopetegui‘s transfer plans late on in the window.

And that is obviously why we couldn’t move him on in the end, it was all about his desire to stay at the club.

So was there a real chance for Ings to move on from the Hammers in the summer?

Danny Ings 7-word response when asked about leaving West Ham

The former Aston Villa, Southampton, Liverpool and Burnley striker has experienced a woeful time in East London.

His goal on Saturday was only his fifth since he joined the Hammers way back in January 2023.

So does his future lie away from West Ham? The fact that he’s still at the club is hugely surprising if you ask me.

But how close did he come to actually leaving?

The Athletic cover quotes from Ings regarding his future at the London Stadium.

The 32-year-old responded when asked just how close he was to leaving West Ham in the summer.

He said, “To be honest, not close at all.”

Now that really is surprising. It was recently claimed by a top source at the London Stadium that the club were doing everything they could to shift Ings in the summer.

Danny Ings surely has no future at West Ham

In spite of his goal on Saturday, I still don’t think Ings has any kind of future at West Ham.

His contract at the London Stadium is set to expire in the summer of 2025, and I fully expect him to be released then.

The 32-year-old hasn’t got the legs to be playing Premier League football anymore. Sure, he’s still a good finisher and will score the odd goal for us, but that’s not enough in this day and age.

Danny Ings certainly doesn’t have the profile to lead the line on his own for this West Ham team under Lopetegui.

I believe that the Hammers head coach will go out and sign an elite striker next summer, and that will certainly spell the end of Ings at the London Stadium.

That said, I still hope that he contributes for us sufficiently between now and the end of the season.
