Danny Ings has inadvertently highlighted the very reason why his West Ham United teammate Michail Antonio isn’t a proper striker.

West Ham beat Nottingham Forest 4-0 yesterday, with Ings scoring his first two goals in a Hammers shirt, and Antonio chipping in with a strike of his own at the end as well.

Hopefully the only way is up for West Ham now, and we can really start climbing the Premier League table.

With Ings on board scoring freely and Antonio coming on as an effective impact sub, we should have every chance of doing just that…

Danny Ings highlights Michail Antonio weakness

The 30-year-old striker was visibly delighted after getting off the mark in a West Ham shirt.

And Ings described how he got on the end of Jarrod Bowen’s scuffed shot to score his first goal for the Hammers, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“I don’t know what to say about [the goals]. I have just thrown myself at them. When the ball is in the box, I just try to be in the best position. [The first goal] was an instinctive run, just gambling off Jarrod’s shot. In that position, I knew I had to stretch for it, so seeing it hit the net was a wonderful feeling.”

There you have Michail Antonio’s centre-forward deficiencies in a nutshell.

The 32-year-old has done really well for us in a forward role since Premier League football resumed after lockdown back in June 2020.

However, his lack of know-how regarding what runs to make and when to make them has severely hampered his ability to score goals for us on a regular basis.

Antonio can still be a very useful weapon for the Hammers when used as an impact sub in a wide role.

However, Danny Ings has inadvertently highlighted the limitations of Michail Antonio in a central striking role.
