Danny Dyer expresses West Ham frustration amid Jarrod Bowen transfer update

Danny Dyer has painted a rather bleak picture for West Ham United fans, all while sharing the latest on son-in-law Jarrod Bowen.

Bowen, of course, has been heavily linked with a move away from West Ham United following their relegation from the Premier League.

What do you make of the ‘Mateus Fernandes to Real Madrid’ rumours? 🇵🇹 👑

He's good – but is he THAT good?

Mateus Fernandes of West Ham United celebrates scoring his team's third goal during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Sunderland at London Stadium on January 24, 2026 in London, England.

Clearly, that does not mean the England forward will leave. Indeed, West Ham are hopeful of keeping Bowen this summer as they prepare for a Championship campaign.

The issue of West Ham losing their very best players, however, is a problem that goes far beyond Bowen and Dyer has had enough.

Dyer laments fact that West Ham always sell their best players

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, the actor said: “We’ve had a lovely three years but the thing about us is we’re one of those clubs where we’re never going to go to the next level because whenever we get a good player, they leave us.

“They go to a bigger club and that’s always going to be the case for us.”

When speaking about Bowen specifically, Dyer said: “I know he wants to stay but I’ve got no answers about that at all.

“He’s devastated by it [relegation]. I can’t tell you how much he takes it to heart.”

Dyer is right. West Ham do generally sell their best players, and that is a real shame.

Still, and while West Ham’s ownership certainly deserve their fair share of criticism, that is a problem in football generally.

Such is the level of financial disparity in the game now, it’s almost impossible for any club outside of a very select few to genuinely keep a hold of their players.

Indeed, West Ham need to sell players this summer, but this is not a new concept.

Not long after the club’s most famous night in modern era, Declan Rice decided to leave the club for Arsenal. Even if West Ham had stayed up last season, it’s hard to imagine Mateus Fernandes sticking around much longer.

It’s a shame that football has to come to this.

Hopefully, Bowen can buck the trend. Keeping him in the Championship would be quite the statement of intent from the club, who desperately need to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

If Bowen can help do that, he’ll only cement his legacy even further.
