Former West Ham United defender Calum Davenport has called on the club to appoint either Scott Parker or Craig Bellamy if Nuno Espirito Santo leaves this summer.

Hammers News understands that Nuno is set to leave West Ham if they are relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the season.

Nuno wants to make YOU proud – so where do you think we finish in the table when all is said and done on Sunday?!

While West Ham still have hope in heading into the final day of the campaign, relegation does remain the most likely outcome in their relegation battle with Tottenham.

Indeed, with Nuno facing an uncertain future, Davenport believes Parker or Bellamy would be suitable replacements.

Scott Parker or Craig Bellamy backed for West Ham job

Speaking to The Athletic, Davenport said: “If West Ham get relegated and Nuno leaves, they need to appoint Parker.

“He knows the club, understands the fans, will blood in youngsters and is a former West Ham captain. If not him, then Bellamy — but Scott would be my pick. The fans would relate and connect with him.”

Parker is a logical appointment as West Ham manager, particularly if the club are relegated.

Pretend you’re Nuno – what changes are you making ahead of Leeds? 👀

If anyone says keep the back five, I'll be shocked 😂

While he has generally struggled in the Premier League, Parker has a brilliant record in getting teams promoted from the Championship. All of Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley have gone up under his watch.

Parker was a popular player in east London and the move would make sense, particularly because he is now a free agent after leaving the Clarets.

Bellamy is far less experienced. The former Hammers forward has broadly done a good job with Wales, however, and appears to relish managing his country.

Of the two, Parker would seem a safer bet. Clearly, his struggles in the Premier League must be taken into account, but West Ham might not have the luxury of looking too far into the future.

So much depends on Sunday. Nuno could yet keep his side in the Premier League, and the conversation about the managerial situation would therefore be very different.

Hopefully, the club are in a position where they do not need to consider making sweeping changes in the dugout.

Yet, if they are, then Parker in particular looks a relatively good fit for the challenge that would be to come.
