Big Carlos Soler twist after major new claim about potential West Ham transfer

West Ham United have been heavily linked with a move to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler over the past week or so.

Carlos Soler is a wonderful footballer, so West Ham being linked with signing him is hugely exciting news for us fans.

It was claimed yesterday that negotiations between the Hammers and PSG for Carlos Soler were ‘progressing well’.

Julen Lopetegui has enjoyed an incredible summer transfer window so far at the London Stadium, bringing in eight new players.

However, the West Ham head coach‘s business is far from being done, he admitted as much himself last week.

So could more new signings be on the way? Soler is certainly someone who seems likely to join the Hammers.

But now a really big twist has emerged.

So a new twist has just come to light regarding the Hammers’ proposed move to sign the former Valencia man.

It was claimed by the likes of The Evening Standard and The Sun that West Ham were closing in on a deal to sign Soler on loan, with an obligation to buy him next summer.

That doesn’t appear to be the case now though – well, that’s what a report out in Spain is claiming.

Spanish outlet La Razon suggest that the Hammers are actually ready to pay £17 million to sign the 27-year-old from PSG up front this summer.

That would be a real sign of intent from the West Ham owners, and proof that we’re in a really strong financial position as a club.

So if we do manage to secure a deal for the Spain international, what would he actually bring to Lopetegui’s side?

Soler would be an incredible signing

The Spaniard has been described as the ‘complete’ player (GFNS), and Soler has absolutely everything needed to succeed with the Hammers in the Premier League.

The silky midfielder bagged two goals and two assists in 24 Ligue 1 games for PSG last season, but only 12 of those appearances were starts.

Despite playing just 1,089 minutes in the league last season, the 27-year-old still averaged 30.8 passes per game, and registered a completion rate of 87.5% (Who Scored).

His ability on the ball and cool and composed nature makes him ideally suited to Lopetegui’s system, with the West Ham boss keen for his team to play out from the back and on into midfield.

Carlos Soler will provide fantastic competition and cover for Lucas Paqueta at West Ham, and if the Brazilian does leave at any point, we will have a ready made replacement already at the club.

Let’s hope that the Hammers manage to wrap this one up as soon as possible. Signing Soler for just £17 million would represent truly outstanding business for us.
