West Ham United have apparently been inching ever closer to signing Carlos Soler over the past few days.

Carlos Soler is an elite talent, and the mere fact that West Ham are even being linked with a move to sign him is a sign of our current standing in today’s game.

West Ham officially opened negotiations with PSG to bring Carlos Soler to the London Stadium yesterday.

And it has been claimed regularly over the past week or so that Lopetegui is prioritising a move to sign the £20 million-rated midfielder before the transfer window slams shut.

The former Valencia ace would be a real statement signing by the Hammers. Julen Lopetegui obviously has real pull, and if the West Ham head coach manages to sign him, this summer transfer window will be close to a perfect 10/10.

So what’s the latest news on our pursuit of the Spanish technician?

Major Carlos Soler to West Ham update

So, things seem to be ticking along nicely, and the Hammers could be closing in on our ninth summer signing.

The 27-year-old Spaniard seems destined to leave the Parc des Princes this summer, but could the London Stadium really be his next destination?

It seems like there is a very real prospect of that happening.

According to L’Equipe, discussions between West Ham and Paris Saint-Germain are progressing well regarding Soler.

The Spain international will struggle to get regular minutes with Paris Saint-Germain this season, so a move to West Ham will certainly be beneficial for him as the World Cup qualifying campaign begins.

The thought of him providing competition and cover for Lucas Paqueta is an incredibly exciting one, and it seems like there’s a real chance he could swap the French capital for the east end of London this summer.

What would Soler bring to the Hammers

He has been described as the ‘complete’ player (GFNS), and Soler has absolutely everything needed to succeed in the Premier League.

The midfielder bagged two goals and two assists in 24 Ligue 1 games for PSG last season, but only 12 of those appearances were starts.

Despite playing just 1,089 minutes in the league last season, the Spaniard still averaged 30.8 passes per game, and registered a completion rate of 87.5% (Who Scored).

His ability on the ball and cool and composed nature makes him ideally suited to Lopetegui’s system, with the West Ham boss keen for his team to play out from the back and on into midfield.

For just £20 million, signing Carlos Soler should be an absolute no-brainer for West Ham as far as I’m concerned.

And the latest update coming out of France regarding our pursuit of the PSG star is hugely encouraging for us.

Hopefully the Hammers wrap this deal up as soon as possible, because we’re crying out for more quality in the engine room.
