Vladimir Coufal has made a really frank admission after our defeat to Newcastle United that may well get under the skin of the West Ham United fans.

West Ham lost 4-3 to Newcastle in the Premier League up at St James’ Park on Saturday, and Vladimir Coufal played a big part in our defeat unfortunately.

David Moyes was fuming after the game with the loss to the Toon, as were the Hammers fans – it was a total disaster given how tight the race for the top seven is.

Moyes’s decision to bring on Kalvin Phillips in place of Michail Antonio backfired badly and ended up costing us the game – something that he admitted himself after the match.

Coufal’s performance certainly didn’t help us out either!

Moyes is said to be lining up a long-term replacement for Vlad in the form of Torino right-back Raoul Bellanova.

That said, he’s been in decent form for the Hammers this season, with seven assists in the Premier League to his name (Transfermarkt).

His Premier League stats make for fairly impressive reading as well, via Who Scored:

However, Coufal was nowhere near his best against the Toon, and put in a really poor 3/10 performance.

He gave away a terrible penalty inside the first few minutes, and then Anthony Gordon proceeded to run the 31-year-old ragged for the entirety of the match.

The fact that we blew a two-goal lead is truly unforgivable. And with that in mind, Coufal’s latest admission will have the Hammers fans seething with anger…

Losing that game to the Magpies was totally unacceptable, given the position we were in after 70 minutes or so.

The referee and VAR officials made our task harder than it should have been, but there really are no excuses for Moyes or his players.

It must be said – the players should have done so much more than they did. They’re responsible for being aware of a shift in momentum on the pitch.

Newcastle clearly had the wind in their sails, but our boys just allowed the hosts to impose themselves onto us.

The West Ham players were camped out inside their own half and the result was inevitable in the end. Now Coufal’s latest admission will really anger the fans.

Vlad spoke to WHUFC.com and was incredibly honest when sharing his reasoning why we lost the game:

“From my point of view, it looked like we just sat back and we just let them play. We invited them close to our box and they have enough quality to break us through, so they were everywhere, they had every second ball it looked like they always had one extra player everywhere. They just worked harder than us. We need to be braver. We need to we need to play with more risk and everything and that’s it.”

The fact that Coufal has openly admitted that the Newcastle players simply worked harder than the West Ham boys is unacceptable.

Nobody should ever outwork us – that’s the bare minimum that we expect from our players. If the Magpies really were working harder than us, it’s little wonder why we lost the game 4-3 in the end is it!

Next up for West Ham is a home game against Tottenham tomorrow night and I expect a huge response from the players.

That final 20 minutes at St James’ Park really wasn’t good enough from the Hammers players. Now they have to prove to us all that they really care about wearing our famous badge on their shirts.
