West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez has fallen out with a high-profile Mexican journalist over a transfer rumour.
Alvarez spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Fenerbahce after the Hammers deemed him surplus to requirements.
The 28-year-old had a difficult campaign in Turkey, suffering a major ankle injury, but he is now fully fit again.
Alvarez is expected to be an integral player for Mexico at the 2026 World Cup, starting in central midfield for the host nation.
Ahead of this summer’s tournament, the Hammers loanee did not appreciate rumours being spread about his club future.

Edson Alvarez clashes with top Mexican journalist before World Cup
Mexican journalist David Faitelson, who has almost four million followers on X, recently linked Alvarez with a return to Mexico.
Faitelson reported that Alvarez had already agreed to join Liga MX club Rayados de Monterrey from West Ham.
Alvarez made his feelings clear on the report when he saw Faitelson before Mexico’s friendly against Australia on Sunday.
Faitelson has revealed that the “angry” midfielder “refused to look him in the eye” as he explained his discontent at the report.
“He told me he didn’t like my comment about Monterrey being interested. Saying there’s interest in a player doesn’t mean anything; on the contrary, it inflates his ego,” Faitelson told MVS Deportes.
The journalist appears to have walked back his previous reporting, suggesting there is “interest” rather than an agreement.

Nuno might've missed a trick…
Alvarez has previously expressed his desire to stay in Europe, which could rule out a move to Monterrey this summer.
The Mexican international still has two years left on his contract at West Ham, so he is not fully in control of his future.
However, it is unlikely that the Hammers will keep him at the club for next season’s Championship campaign.
Alvarez will probably be looking to put himself in the shop window by performing well for Mexico at the World Cup.
