Alphonse Areola praised one member of the West Ham United coaching staff after our win over Everton yesterday.

West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola put in an incredible performance against Everton at Goodison Park, and his display was the main reason that we won the game 3-1.

The 31-year-old stopper’s performances this season have highlighted how he should have been the Hammers’ number one goalkeeper last term, if not before then.

Areola has kept us in games time and time again this season, and his display yesterday was one of the very best that I’ve seen in a long, long time from a West Ham goalkeeper.

The Frenchman saved a penalty from Beto, and made a whole host of other top-drawer saves. However, the save from the the giant Everton striker inside the first-half was one of his best of the day.

And Areola heaped praise on one of the Hammers coaching staff for the role he played in the spot-kick save…

Areola shares which West Ham staff member played key role in penalty save

West Ham goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero is very highly thought of at the London Stadium.

And Areola shared just how important the Spaniard’s role was in the penalty save yesterday, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“After the penalty, I pointed to the bench because I’d spoken to Xavi about penalties. We were expecting [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin to play, but Xavi came to me and then I took my decision.”

It’s good to know that we’re doing such in-depth research on our opponents behind the scenes.

It’s something that I just don’t believe we have done enough of over the past few years.

Areola was clearly very grateful for Xavi Valero’s role in his penalty save for West Ham yesterday. Hopefully there is plenty more where that came from.
