Ally McCoist has sent a timely reminder to West Ham about how much Europe means ahead of the crunch match with Olympiacos.

Legendary pundit Ally McCoist always seems to find the right words and rarely calls things wrong.

And his comments about West Ham this week should strike a chord at the perfect time.

West Ham fans are still justifiably basking in the glory of being European champions.

Hammers supporters have loved every minute of their European adventures over the last two seasons.

And on Thursday night West Ham face a huge Europa League clash against Olympiacos that will go a long way to deciding if they can secure knockout European football for a third season in a row.

McCoist’s timely reminder how much Europe means

On Sunday night we reported that around 8,500 tickets remained unsold for West Ham’s clash with Olympiacos.

But West Ham fans have rallied after a David Moyes plea to give Olympiacos a hostile welcome as the game edges closer to a sell-out.

West Ham have produced some memorable atmospheres for night games at the London Stadium. Particularly in Europe with Sevilla the obvious one that springs to mind.

Being in Europe three seasons in a row may have led to some taking it for granted.

Complacency among players or fans is the last thing West Ham can afford ahead of decisive games.

But McCoist has sent a timely reminder to West Ham about how much Europe means ahead of the crunch match with Olympiacos.

‘It’s brilliant, that’s what it’s all about’

The Scot says West Ham winning the Conference League and competing in Europe has breathed new life the Hammers and given British clubs a fantastic incentive.

“West Ham have done football a massive favour winning that tournament because it gives teams like West Ham that have no chance, including Celtic of winning the Champions League, it gives them a dream,” McCoist said on talkSPORT.

“It gives them an opportunity. You just look at those guys whose dads and kids and mums jump on that flight from the east end of London to go and see their team in Europe.

“It’s brilliant, that’s what it’s all about.”

Well said that man.

Let’s hope for a raucous atmosphere and three points to put one foot in the last 16.
